Intro
to Web Design
We
will progress through three steps in designing our professional Web Sites:
- Planning
- Mapping out a site
- Designing
- Using HTML editors (notepad, Word, Composer, FrontPage,
Dreamweaver) to lay out the design of the pages
- Implementing
- Placing files on a server to make our pages available on the
Internet
At each step, we will focus on three
important issues in all Web design:
- Navigation,
- Content, and
- Consistency
You have three options for planning, designing, and
implementing a three-page Web site for this project:
- A business Web site with a home page, a products/services
page, and an about us/contact page
- A teacher Web site with a home page, a syllabus or project
page, and a sample weekly calendar page
- A personal/organizational Web site with a home page, an
about me page, and a pictures page
For whichever of the three above Web sites you choose to
produce, you must include each of the following on every
page:
On
every page:
- A
navigation bar
- Table or page background colors/images
- Text
colors
- Table
layouts
- At least one image
- Ensure
Web Accessibility for the disabled (Click here for
ten tips from the Web Accessibility Initiative: http://info.ex.ac.uk/its/helpdesk/tentips.html)
Additionally, you must ensure that each of the following
appear at least once in your site:
At
least one occurrence of each of the following in the
site:
Optional
additional improvements (only add these after you have
achieved all of the above):
Sample ideas for the Teacher Web Site are
given below:
